Boiler Cover
Boiler cover is usually taken out for peace of mind and to avoid a large bill when something fails. Many homeowners still buy the wrong level of protection — or pay twice for cover they already have.
Check what you already have
New boilers usually carry a manufacturer warranty. Taking out extra boiler cover during that period is often money wasted, unless the plan adds something the warranty does not (for example a guaranteed annual service, or heating-system parts the maker does not cover). Keep the warranty valid: annual service by a Gas Safe engineer, inhibitor, and the installer’s benchmark paperwork all matter.
Some home-insurance policies already include boiler or home-emergency cover. Read the schedule before you buy a second plan.
Self-insuring
Another option is to put aside a regular amount for repairs and a replacement, instead of paying a monthly plan. That needs discipline — the pot has to stay for heating, not other spending — and you still need a Gas Safe engineer when it breaks. Read exclusions before you pay. Pre-existing faults, limescale, sludge, shower pumps, and non-natural-gas appliances are commonly refused. Cover is not a reason to skip servicing.
