Smarter Heating & Hot Water

Boiler Repairs

A boiler repair is work to get heat or hot water back after a fault — not the same as an annual service. Any work on a gas appliance in the UK must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If you can smell gas, hear a leak, or a carbon monoxide alarm is sounding, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.

What you can check first

These checks do not involve opening the gas appliance. If any of them restore heat, you may not need a call-out.

When to call an engineer

Call a Gas Safe engineer if there is no heat or hot water after those checks, a persistent fault code, a leak from the boiler, ignition failure, or you are not confident topping up pressure. Same-day attendance matters most in winter, for vulnerable occupants, or where a leak is causing damage.

A repair is not a substitute for a service. A well installed, set-up, and serviced boiler fails less often. If the appliance is old, beyond economical repair, or still under manufacturer warranty, say so when you book — warranty work often has to go through the maker, not a third-party call-out.
